What is Batavia Arrack?

Distinctive and divisive, Batavia Arrack is one of world’s oldest known distilled spirits. Produced only from molasses, this unique cane distillate is nevertheless very different to Rum.

Made exclusively in Indonesia and nowhere else, Batavia Arrack is unique in its use of cakes made of local malted red rice. The wild yeast in these cakes kick starts the fermentation process, resulting in a highly distinctive flavour profile. The distillation process itself can be traced all the way back to the ancient Chinese use of traditional pot stills.
